When you’re vacationing with young kids, making the trip special for them is very important. Keeping them busy and tiring them out is important, too! Thankfully, North Conway is jam packed with great stuff for kids to do. It’s almost impossible for the kids to be bored in the Mount Washington Valley. Here are our top tips for kids things to do in North Conway!
For all-time classic amusement parks in the Mount Washington Valley, Storyland is at the top of the list! It’s geared towards young children, with plenty of opportunities for them to ride coasters, meet storybook characters, and burn off some energy running around on the interactive rides. Another option is Kahuna Laguna, the water park at the Red Jacket in North Conway! With slides and pools, this is a great way to cool off in the heat of summer. Or, if you’re in the mood for a scenic drive before your day of adventure, head over to Whale’s Tale in Franconia Notch!
The fresh, clear water in the Mount Washington Valley can’t be beat! Taking a dip in the river or a lake is a fantastic way to beat the heat. First Bridge has a wonderful grassy area for frisbee, along with access to the Saco for swimming. Walk five minutes up a path through the woods to a rope swing! Another great option in North Conway is Echo Lake. There’s a beach and picnic tables, and lake is very calm and contained. There are beautiful views up to Cathedral Ledge from the shore. There is a small entry fee for Echo Lake. Silver Lake is a larger, beachy lake about 20 minutes South of Conway and is also worth a visit! Several of our vacation rental homes also have access to association pools for convenient swimming!
It’s never too early to get your youngster out into the great outdoors for a hike! There are tons of introductory options for kids near North Conway. Diana’s Baths is the most popular option, as it features an easy walking path and wonderful waterfalls. However, it can get crowded, particularly in the summer. Check out Champney Falls or Sabbaday Falls for slightly less crowded options. Or, if the kids are up for about a 3 mile round trip loop, visit Boulder Loop. It also tends to be busy, but is nowhere near as crowded as the other easy hikes.
Shopping might not sound like a fun kid’s activity, but it definitely is in North Conway! There are tons of shops to visit, from Zeb’s General Store for funny gifts and fudge, to the North Conway Five and Dime for penny candy and neat knick-knacks. There’s the Penguin Store for all things penguin, and Dondero’s rock shop for budding geologists and fans of crystals. And don’t forget to stop off at the MWV Weather Discovery Center, an awesome kids’ science museum right downtown! Finally, there’s Schuler Park, where the train station is located – it has plenty of grassy space for a picnic, as well as a playground to burn off some extra energy! All of our vacation rentals homes are a short drive from North Conway!
Located right in the middle of downtown North Conway, the Conway Scenic railroad station is an excellent launch point for an incredible day of fun for kids! Check out our blog post for more information on the routes and events that go on year round! The Cog Railway station is another train worth catching – and this one goes right up to the summit of Mt. Washington! And, of course, there’s the kid’s train at Storyland!
