Riding the rails through beautiful Mount Washington Valley is one of the best ways to see the sights. Trains travel through Barlett, North Conway, and into Crawford Notch. The best part? Provided your dog is well-behaved, he or she is welcome aboard! Imagine the fun for a dog in smelling all those interesting Valley smells!
Nowadays, you can even bring your dog along for a dinner out on the town! There are several restaurants in North Conway that allow your dog to join you. At Flatbread Company right downtown, there is a dog-friendly patio you can lounge on while you chow down. Black Cap Grille is also dog-friendly, and serves classic American food along with a selection of beers. If you’re walking around downtown, stop by Beef & Ski for another dog-friendly option with tasty, hearty grub!
There is nothing a dog loves more than to run free in the great outdoors! Chasing chipmunks, digging through roots, and dashing through the branches is a total blast. Whitaker Woods is a fantastic network of walking and cross country ski trails located just 2 minutes from downtown North Conway. Schouler Park is also a nice place to go for a short walk. For a longer stroll, consider the Green Hills preserve, which has a nice network of trails and access to three short hikes up Middle, Peaked, and Cranmore mountains. For more information on hiking, check out our blog post about the topic!
For the best local pet store in the Valley, look no further than Four Your Paws Only! This incredible store has everything you and your pooch could possibly want. Pet food of all varieties, treats and toys, stylish leashes and colors – they have it all. There is even a pet bakery that makes goods so tasty looking that you might be tempted to try them yourself! There are also two major brand pet stores in town, PetCo and PetSmart.
After a long day out and about, Fido could use a dip to cool off! The rivers and ponds around North Conway are just what the dog-tor ordered. One of the best local spots to bring a dog is Davis Park in Conway Village. There’s a sandy beach and plenty of sticks to toss into the river for fetching. First Bridge near North Conway is right on the Saco and has a large grassy area to play in. In the Green Hills Preserve, there’s a large beaver pond that makes for some great dunking during a hike!
If you’re visiting the Valley with your dog and you don’t have pet-friendly accommodations, give Karla’s Pet Rendezvous a call. In addition to boarding services, Karla’s also has a full pet salon, so your dog can have a spa day.
