Our Best Scenic Drives in North Conway

The start of fall foliage season is right around the corner, so we’ve pulled together some of our best scenic drives out of North Conway. Keep reading below to start planning your scenic drive today!

The Kancamagus Highway

Meander up the Kancamagus Highway from Conway to Lincoln, NH for a leisurely scenic drive to take in the foliage. The “Kanc” as it’s known locally, is one of the most popular scenic drives in the area. Start your drive along the Swift River and make a pit stop at the Albany Covered Bridge for spectacular photos. The highway is packed full of pull-off points and trailheads, more than can be explored in a single day! Stop at the pull-off for Sabbaday Falls and a quick half-mile hike will take you to one of the most beautiful waterfalls on the Kanc. If you want a complete guide, stop at the Saco Ranger Station to pick up a map filled with information about the highway and all it has to offer!

Pinkham Notch

Driving Pinkham Notch, which snakes between Wildcat Mountain and Mount Washington, is one of the more spectacular scenic drives in terms of the view. Head north on 302 from North Conway, and turn right at the Glen stoplight. Wind through picturesque Jackson Village and then into the woods you go. Soon the Eastern Slope of Mount Washington comes into view, home of Tuckerman’s Ravine, a famous ski area. If you want to learn more about the area, try popping into the Pinkham Notch Visitor’s Center up the road on the left. Feeling truly adventurous?  Turn off onto the Mount Washington Auto Road and follow it to the top!

Crawford Notch

Crawford Notch, which takes you around the western slope of Mount Washington, is another incredible scenic drive. Head North from North Conway on Route 302 and head through the stoplights in Glen. Continue up the road past Attitash Mountain and through the town of Bartlett. Soon signs will appear for Crawford Notch. Once you reach the Notch the views will take your breath away. If you want a break from the car, try a ride up Mount Washington on the Cog Railway, which chugs up the western side. This is truly an epic drive, and you won’t be disappointed!
