The 5 Best Picnic Spots In North Conway

Celebrate a beautiful day by having a picnic! Gather your friends and family, stock up on provisions, and spend an afternoon at one of these 5 best picnic spots in North Conway (and areas close by).

About 13 miles up the Kancamagus Highway from the Conway side, Sugar Hill Overlook offers a panoramic view of the Swift River Valley and surrounding mountains. There is a large covered picnic area, a paved parking lot and signs describing the landscape, forest management, and the multiple uses that occur in the White Mountain National Forest. The views are breath-taking. You can make the trip extra special by stopping at Riverstone’s bakery for a sweet picnic treat!

One of the best known attractions in North Conway, Diana’s Baths is a series of pools and cascades on Lucy Brook.  Because of its popularity, parking in the summer can be a challenge, and there’s a fee, so come early and bring a little cash. The trail up to the Baths is about a .75 mile walk and is ADA accessible with benches along the way. The Baths themselves are both beautiful and fun; there pools that you can wade in, or, further downstream, large enough for a proper dip.

Maybe the best bang for your buck in terms of view for effort, Foss Mountain offers panoramic views, all-you-can-eat low bush blueberries (in July and early August) and a little history of the area as well. Located in Eaton off of Stewart Road, the trail up Foss Mountain is less than a mile and not too steep, so it’s great for the young, the old, and everyone in between!

Located just beyond Mt Washington in Gorham, the Dolly Copp picnic area is a large timber-frame structure adjacent to the Dolly Copp Campground. It was built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in 1936. With a large stone fireplace, numerous picnic tables, 2 metal grills, drinking water, and flush toilets, the Dolly Copp Picnic Area is an easy place to get together for a meal. It’s also available for rent for family gatherings, wedding receptions, or other group events. It’s on the Peabody River, which is a great place to dip your feet on a hot day!

For a day of swimming, hiking and picnicking, Echo Lake State Park in North Conway has it all. With a sandy beach, picnic tables with charcoal grills, hiking trails, and gorgeous views of Cathedral Ledge, plan to spend some time at this special spot. Located in North Conway, Echo Lake gets very busy, so plan to go early. There is an admission fee.
