North Conway is known far and wide as a great destination for skiing, mountain biking, hiking, and a hundred other outdoor activities. Visitors to the area should also know that it’s a fantastic town for foodies! Some of the best restaurants are our Valley Originals, locally-owned business that prepare food fresh daily. Here are five Valley Originals you need to check out during your next visit!
The Moat brews delicious local beer – everything from IPAs to Stout. They also have a rotation of excellent seasonal beers. It’s a favorite gathering spot for local bikers, hikers, climbers, and visitors alike. The beer is great, and the food is even better! The Moat serves everything from house-made pizzas to giant nacho platters (we’re talking BBQ pork nachos, among others), burgers, and steaks. It’s delicious and filling food that you don’t want to miss. Stop by after a day of outdoor fun and before you head back to your vacation rental home for the night!
Shalimar is delicious and authentic Indian cuisine in the heart of North Conway. Whether you’re a fan of curry, samosas, tikka masala, or all of the above, you’re sure to find your favorite at Shalimar. The kitchen has an authentic Tandoori oven, and the owners are passionate about providing great food and service. They have many veggie specials alongside their meat offerings, and for a tasty alcohol-free drink, try a Mango Lassi.
Horsefeathers is a tradition for many visitors to the valley who come back every year. It’s a great place to gather after a day of skiing for some cocktails and hot food. The location can’t be beat – it’s right downtown on the strip in North Conway. The food is affordable and delicious, and the atmosphere is cozy and classic. They open early for breakfast and stay late for revelers. Horsefeathers has an ice-cream counter for kids, and one of their signature dishes is hearty Scallop Pie. Give them a try!
If you’re heading into town from the south, Cafe Noche is a great place to stop for some Mexican food on the way in! The name means “Night Cafe,”, but they’re open for lunch, too! They serve all of your favorites, from Enchiladas to Burritos, Quesadillas to Nachos. You’ll feel like you stepped right into the Southwest when you open the doors and find a seat, and the feeling will really set in when you try one of their fantastic Margaritas!
This is one of the best spots to see live music in the Mount Washington Valley. They book local and regional bands on Friday and Saturday nights, and frequently host blues events on Sundays. Monday is open-mic night if you’re in the mood to perform or see some variety! They have over 10 beers on tap and serve a wide range of classic American food. Put your dancing shoes on and try them out!
